Windstrong®
Windstrong® Windlocked Roller Door
Windstrong® is Taurean Door Systems' windlocked roller door, engineered and tested to AS/NZS 4505:2012 for Region C cyclonic wind classifications, and installed by LT Doors on exposed properties across Wollongong and the Illawarra. It adds riveted wind-clips and reinforced track brackets to a standard roller door for extra holding strength in high-wind conditions.
Built for Wollongong's coastal conditions
Wollongong sits outside the official Region C cyclonic wind zone that Windstrong was originally engineered for, so most local properties won't need it to meet a building code requirement. That said, exposed coastal blocks and elevated sites from Bulli to Windang do see genuinely severe gusts during east coast lows and summer storms, and Windstrong's wind-clip and bracket system gives real extra holding strength over a standard door on those more exposed sites — we're upfront with clients about when it's a compliance requirement versus a worthwhile extra for peace of mind.
what LT doors thinks
For the vast majority of Wollongong homes, a standard roller door with the optional windlock upgrade (available on the Commando Collection, for instance) is enough. We'd point a client toward the full Windstrong specification specifically for an elevated, wind-exposed site, a rural shed with little surrounding shelter, or where an engineer or certifier has specifically called for AS/NZS 4505:2012 compliance.
Key features
- Compliance: engineered and tested to AS/NZS 4505:2012, Region C cyclonic wind classification
- Wind-clip system: riveted wind-clip at every second flat, 7 clips per metre each side, each supported by two steel track brackets
- Rated capacity: documented ultimate design wind pressures (inward and outward) for door widths from 2550mm to 5400mm
- Classification: suitable as a Domestic door (Class 1 and 10 buildings) to 20,000 cycles, or General Purpose — Medium Cycle door (Class 1 to 10 buildings) to 20,000 cycles
- Weatherproofing: flexible sealing strip along the bottom rail against dust and leaves
- Made/engineered in Australia
What makes the Windstrong different
Most roller doors are rated for general weather exposure but not independently tested against a specific wind-engineering standard. Windstrong's wind-clip and bracket system is tested under AS/NZS 4505:2012 with documented pressure and force ratings by door width, so the wind performance is a verified specification rather than a general claim.
Wind rating and specifications
Maximum opening height 5100mm; maximum door width 5400mm (door width = opening + 100mm). Ultimate design wind pressure and maximum door width vary by cyclonic wind classification (C1 to C4) — LT Doors can talk through the relevant table for your specific site and building class at quote stage.
Which roller door should you choose?
Windstrong is the specification to reach for on a genuinely wind-exposed or engineer-specified site. For a standard Wollongong home or shed, Taurean's Commando Collection offers an optional windlock upgrade that covers most everyday wind exposure without the full Windstrong engineering package.
Installation, warranty and upgrades
Measured, supplied and installed by LT Doors' licensed local team, backed by a written workmanship guarantee alongside Taurean's 12-month manufacturer warranty (domestic installations, excluding salt corrosion). Taurean recommends and supplies Merlin and Grifco door openers, including myQ smart home automation.
